Re: How many pints can you buy for £1500?

I still do free inspections and if a machine is obviously not worth repairing, without even a few minutes in the house, then I will do a free of charge visit.

However… I am not a charity! It has cost me money to get there! and I now make it clear on my initial telephone contact that there will be a diagnostic charge if it can be repaired.

I try to give a good indication of the expected repair charge prior to the visit and I will only do a free visit if my telephone estimate is totally wrong… and then only within a few miles of my home base.

I still sleep very happily with a clear conscience and I pride myself on only having “happy customers”.

My feelings on this subject have changed totally over that last few months and I can only thank those that have pointed me in the right direction.

I wouldn’t take my van to the garage and expect them to inspect it free of charge…

Re: WMA76 drum only has two bolts ????

Possible, but unlikely to have lasted until out of guarantee. 😉

    However…

I had an interesting one today.

Beko WMA10 just over twelve months old with earth fault…. No heater bollard 😯 !!!

This is the second one I have seen with this problem this year… The first one I dismissed as possible coin damage as the customer had already had a dig about in the sump hose and removed several items, I assumed that the heater fixing had been discarded. Today’s one was an elderly lady who have never even touched the filter!

Things do get missed on a production line.

    Is it the twist one?

If so PMP9006 from Connect has the thermal overload.

I believe this one has the Eaton timer. Is it the same sympton as the intermittent no spin problems that we get on Aristons Indesits and Hoovers with the same timer?

If so then it’s the timer at fault.

The TB that I have ‘seen’ involves cutting the main door seal short at the bottom with scissors. It gives dimensions and shows a photo of someone cutting a short length from the bottom in both corners.

I can’t quite see what it is about? I get the feeling that it to stop a pressure build up in the tank???

I did see the company confidential notice at the top!

Re: Hotpoint Mistrel Plus Fridge/Freezer Mod 8496

A high freezer temperature (approx -10C) combined with a correct fridge temperature, is almost certainly a restricted condenser or a faulty compressor fan.

The compressor is overheating and cutting out on its internal over temp cut out.

Another indication of this problem is a very warm transom between the fridge and the freezer doors. There is a hot-gas anti-condensation heater foamed in and running close to the surface. If the compressor is overheating it always gives rise to a warm feeling to the cabinet at this point.

If you take off the kickstrip, I bet you will find a mat of dog hair!

Clean it out and problem solved.

    EDIT—————

Sorry, scrub that; I didn’t read the original post correctly. 😳

(Interesting information though, so I will leave it in)

Very common for the wiring harness to chaff on the concrete balance weight.

Re: Bosch DW, taking in little water, poor wash

    NIce easy one for you.

There is a transfer hose between the sump and the metering system that is blocked with crud.

Remove table top and both side panels to make access easier. Remove bottom plinth (kickstrip). You may find it practical to remove the outer door skin too. Remove metal plate behind kickstrip and you will see the transparent hose going from the sump to the left hand side. It’s a push fit. Pop it off and clean it in the sink.

I allways dismantle the pressure switch system to clean it while it’s out as it is sometimes gunked up inside.

    Good luck

    Thanks boys.

I can’t believe the state some people let their cookers get into!

It’s only two years old and it is absolutely filthy! 1/4 inch of grease around the rear trim. All of the hotplates have corrodeded. One has split in half!

I’m going to quote as high as I think I can get away with and hope she goes elsewhere.

    Thanks again for your help

Same appliance, does anyone know if the solid hotplates are special in any way or can I fit generic ones?

Also, any idea how to get the hotplate top off? It is covered in grease and I can’t see any fixing screws at the front.

Any help will be much appreciated

The Creda 18501 series dishwasher (That horrible thing that sits under the sink unit) had the timer motor in series with the heater.

Another one that fooled many an engineer.

I think I am classified as an employee as it is a limited company.

Although I am director, the law still sees me as an employee. Certainly in the case of insurances etc.

A lot of heaters are double pole switched these days.

I always meggar the machine from the Pressure Switch. Most machines have a direct link from the pressure switch (high water level) to the heater,
