ParticipantRe: hotpoint WD420g varying motor action
Had a Hpt doing something like that a while back. Couldn’t figure it out but it had to be module or motor. But I noticed the bearings were getting noisy so I sent her to Hpt. Their o.o.g. deal isn’t bad when there’s a problem like this. I aksed her to let me know what happened, telling her to insist they fixed everything even though the bearings might have lasted a few more months.
She was good enough to let me know. It cost £109.99 or something like that. The guy was there for 70 minutes. He replaced the complete welded drum, the motor, the module and one or two other bits. It was OK after that!

Firestarter, where did you get that figure from? I have had machines show faults at 30Meg and Zanussi manuals I have read state 40.

ParticipantRe: customer wants part numbers
If I’ve got my call out charge and I’ve taken a deposit for the parts, I endeavour to leave machine working if it can be done safely.
If it’s a customer I know and/or feel I can trust, I often leave payment till job’s 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} complete as it’s less juggling with accounts.
On the rare occasion, I may have lost a small amount of time or money by doing it this way. I think it’s worth that for good customer relations and my sanity. I guess some of the people that live around your areas could be less trustworthy than round here?

Not another Hoover selector switch? :rolls: If it’s a separate switch, not integral with the board, change it. They’re carp but they’re cheap!

ParticipantRe: JLWD1404 (washer dryer)
This has been discussed quite a few times here in the past couple of years. But finding those discussions is proving difficult. Relying therefore on my colander of a memory, I think this is probably pressure switch related. Hmm something coming back now about sump blockages – colourcatchers that sort of thing, not interfering with drainage so much but flapping about and causing p/switches to give conflicting signals. I’d try disconnecting p/sw hoses, having a feel around sump hose – could even be that damn’ table tennis ball stuck, blocked drain hose end, or p/sw (probably the anal-logic one – see if I’m allowed to say that) itself. Try giving it a gentle tap – disconnect and reconnect etc. May even be loom fault.

Well the selectors on these things are about a fiver and about as reliable as our train service :rolls: so I wouldn’t think twice.

Hmm…Young woman…. not suffering from delusions… I’m not convinced yet that my beautiful theory is wrong. 😆

The 10p works OK but I think they’re made of plated steel these days, aren’t they? If so, the rust will get through it in maybe 10 or 15 years. Better to carry a brass one in the toolbox, they’re cheap enough and it looks a bit more pro. (Not that I worry about appearances but I know many of you do.)

Cras wrote:The office ring the next day to be met by “oh i’ll think about it”
Could it be that at this point she thought it was not you ringing her but some other firm that she had also consulted for an idea of cost before subsequently choosing your service. Then months later remembers that you were going to get back to her and, thinking that you haven’t, gets herself in a huff.
I’d ring her and find out what all the fuss is about. Give her the part numbers anyway. What’s the problem there?
But you haven’t got anything to worry about. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? You give her back the call out charge. Big deal.

The low insulation would have shown up on initial insulation test. But you’ve got to know that you’re looking for anything under FORTY megohms! (It’s in the manual.)

I thought that was a pointer to the 680uf.
Or does it have to have all lights flashing for it to be that?

Cheers. Is that 973911919253030 (configured)? Looks a little bit cheaper at Connect. Probably BER anyway. 2006 model, bet it was only £200? The husband came out with, “trouble is these days it’s probably cheaper just to buy a new one” before I’d even tried switching it on. :rolls:

ParticipantRe: Zanussi FC1100 nda
Worth checking the triac on the module. Looks to me like there’s no relay involved on that board. Was a heavy load washed in it last time or unbalanced load perhaps? I’m assuming you’ve got pnc 914010014/**
What little gen is available is on Connect, maybe also on a TDS, not looked. Very rare for those modules to go wrong IME.
